On the Commons with Nick Dranias
Like peeling an onion, Americans are increasingly finding themselves living under layers of government, The obvious ones are the Federal Government, followed by the state, then the local jurisdiction, be they city, county or town and for good measure, millions of Americans also live under the regime of a mandatory membership homeowners association. According to our guest today, since 1972 America has gained an average of one new government a day. How intrusive and costly are these new governments? And since this country was founded on liberty and limited government, how are America's citizens faring under all these layers and layers of government.
On the Commons this week we are joined by Nick Dranias. Nick is the Director for Constitutional Government at the Goldwater Institute (www.goldwaterinstitute.org/) in Arizona. Before that he was an attorney with the Institute for Justice as well as a litigator in the private sector. He is the author of several articles, including "A New Charter for American Cities: 10 Rights to Restrain Government and Protect Freedom" Please join us On The Commons. We'll talk about the layers of government, both highly visible and the more obscure ones. We'll peel back the layers of government and talk about the problems, how they affect us, the citizens, and what we can do about it. Can we fight city hall? Tune in and find out.

Wonderful website and interviews! Thank you Shu.
I have found that legislative bills concerning HOAs mostly come out of the "Business and Industry" committee. For that reason, the business and industries (the CAI and Carona's people)write them to favor HOA and CAI business and industry. In addition, these industries gain support of local governments (especially in a down turn in an economy and tax base) because HOAs pay for roads, signs, maintenance and other responsibilities that city taxes would otherwise have to pay. In this way, HOAs are offering to "bail out" local government and our legislators are strongly supporting this dictatorial coup. It is a crime, and honestly I do not know why the Mexican Drug Cartel does not write favorable bills in the Business and Industry committee in our Legislator. This drug industry just needs to join the legislatively structured mafia like the CAI and HOAs. Our bill making structure is not about constitution, morality or freedom. It is instead about bail outs, dodging responsibility, and supporting business at all costs.

This is probably true in every state Nancy. We must vigorously oppose and harass the unconstitutional barking dogs that like to pass bills that looks good at first glance, but when closely examined leave huge holes in them for "insider" advantage.
Don't you just love the congressmen and women who claim to support property rights until you ask them whose! The same ones who criticized publically the KELO V. NEW LONDON (2005) US Sup. Ct. decision, while behind the scenes working hard to make sure the average joe doesn't stand in their way (ULI/CAI).
